BBC iPAD TAX
Monday, 26 July 2010 09:20:20 Europe/London
Computer users may be hit by pay-per-view fee
Viewers catching up with BBC TV on computers could be taxed, it emerged yesterday.
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said increasing numbers were watching licence fee-funded TV on their iPads and other devices.
And he said the way the money was collected for the BBC should be reviewed. "Technology is changing," said Mr Hunt. "A lot of people are watching TV on their PCs. That's something I have to discuss."
The move raises the possibility of a pay-per-view system for viewers watching shows on "catch-up" via the BBC's iPlayer service on their laptop or mobile screens.
